Statement:

An artist will set up a scene, to then immediately change it. This is because the reaction to the change may be exactly what they were looking for. Change is a fundamental element in artistic construction, it is how an artist explores their creativity. Photodynamism was established in 1912 during the Italian Futurist Movement by Anton Giulio Bragaglia. It is fixated upon capturing not the result of the change, but the process in which it unfolds. Although seemingly similar to film, it’s objective was consciously the opposite. Film has the capability to successfully render the interaction between elements and the ever changing forms in which nature subsists. But photodynamism is not concerned with the precise reconstruction of movement, which film inherently shatters by the individual frames of it’s documentation. Photodynamism condenses and combines those frames in one singular image. It aims to synthesize movement in it’s entirety. It traces the shape of a figure in it’s migration from one state to another, capturing the response that a single motion evokes in the atmosphere around it.
