I wanted to photograph a set of images where colour functions as the singular and most dominant element in the composition. Similar to the technique established by Henri Matisse and other Fauvist artists, I attempted to re-create the impression of light and translate it directly into colour. I was curious as to how this technique could be demonstrated in a photo rather than a painting. Considering the fact that light is essentially the singular most vital component to photography, I did not try to eliminate it. I manipulated light to transform a 3-dimensional space into a 2-dimensional one, and painted the objects I photographed as if I was shading a drawing. By doing this, I attempted to remove light and shadow from it’s original mold so that it could manifest a  new form for itself. A form that is expressed through and inspired entirely by colour.
